Key Verse: Genesis 1:28 (NIV)

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Birds, fishes, penguins, and all kinds of four-legged animals: The list seem endless as we ponder the kind of creations we can build each day. In the first two chapters of Genesis, we are given a glimpse of God’s boundless creativity: in colours, shape, form, and function. His creation is meant to display His infinite love and points his creation back to His glory. Humanity as part of His creation was given more in our likeness to our Creator and with this likeness a greater responsibility: the care and flourishing of all He made.

Anytime we are engaged in a creative build-time with our kids, we can remind them of the care they have taken to build their creation. The colours they chose, the shape and size, the pose; they are all chosen for a purpose by them. In the same way, God created everything with care and purpose; nothing is wasted. As such we should always remember to make every effort and intention to take care of His creation. If God takes special care of us (Matthew 6:26), we should also learn to take special care of what He made.

Questions for kids:
